    Typically Covered by Insurance

Most plans cover preventive care in full, and contribute toward basic and major treatment.

    Dental Hygiene

Routine cleanings and exams — usually covered in full.

    Porcelain Crowns

Restorative crowns — typically covered in part.

    Dental Sealants

Protective sealants — often covered, especially for kids.

    Fluoride Therapy

    Covered for patients under 16.

    Invisalign

Orthodontic treatment — often partially covered.

    Periodontal Gum Therapy

Gum-disease treatment — typically covered in part.

    Cosmetic Treatments & Financing

Purely cosmetic procedures — done only to improve appearance, with no medical need — generally aren't covered by dental insurance. These usually include:

  • Teeth Whitening
  • Porcelain Veneers
  • Tooth Bonding
  • Dental Implants
  • Juvéderm & Botox
  • If a treatment is medically necessary, your plan may cover part of the cost. And procedures that aren't covered can be financed with CareCredit, so you can move forward on a budget that works for you.

    Insurance Terms, Explained

    What is a deductible?

The fixed amount you pay out of pocket before your insurance plan begins paying for treatment.

    What is the annual maximum?

The total amount your plan will pay toward your dental care in a plan year.

    What is co-insurance?

The share of the cost you pay after your deductible is met. On a 70/30 plan, for example, your insurer pays 70% and you pay 30%.

    What is a co-payment?

A fixed amount you pay toward treatment while your insurer covers the rest. Unlike co-insurance, a co-pay can apply even before your deductible is met.

    What Dental Insurance Typically Covers

Dental insurance works differently from medical insurance — it's built around specific treatments, and coverage varies from plan to plan. Even so, most dental plans cover:

  • At least two preventive visits (cleanings or exams) in full
  • Restorative treatments like crowns and periodontal gum therapy, at least partially
  • Orthodontics and periodontics, at least partially
  • As a rule of thumb, plans cover preventive care at 100%, basic treatments around 80%, and major treatments at least 50%. Our team files claims electronically and plans your treatment to make the most of your benefits.
